                                   What is Gardasil?

One way that HPV and Cervical Cancer can be prevented is through vaccinations. However, there is only one type of vaccine that can aid in the prevention of Human Papillomavirus. This vaccine is known as Gardasil. Gardasil is an FDA approved drug that is taken 3 times over a period of 6 months. One advantage of Gardasil is that it can be taken both males and females, and once taken, the risk of contracting HPV goes down drastically. One important thing to remember about Gardasil is that it is not a treatment drug. It should only be used to prevent HPV, not to treat patients who already are infected with it. Although Gardasil is effective, some recipients of it may develop side effects, such as fainting, pain, and swelling.
